Visit to the Carrière du Déluge
For the European Heritage Days 2025, the Déluge quarry in Marcoussis opens its doors to you. It’s an opportunity to visit this large exploitation and discover sediments more than 30 million years old! It is the story of a sea that gradually invades the Paris basin, leaving a large part of the Essonne under the waters. The sandy part sometimes leaves traces of plants and animal remains in the region. It will be an opportunity to discover, through the images of these remains, a rich marine fauna of subtropical climate before giving way to a desert: an ideal moment for reflection on this disappeared world and the importance of safeguarding the regional natural heritage. Also discover the work of the company TERSEN which manages the rational exploitation of this remarkable site. This company has been committed to an ecological approach for more than 30 years, it recycles construction site waste and changes the life cycle of materials.
