Aperçu

In 1899, planning permission was granted for a complex of three semi-detached tenement houses in an eclectic style. The white stone and bluestone facades, linked by string courses, protrude into the three axial bays and rise to four floors of three bays each, all under a gable roof. Each floor has its own bow window, but it is the ground floor that really catches the eye. It is a rare example of a surviving Art Deco shopfront. It features three display cabinets separated by ornate wrought-iron doors. The floor features a granito composition. It was probably designed by Félicien Josselet in 1925. Another commercial ground floor transformed in the Art Deco style by this architect is at 61 Chaussée de Charleroi, and there is a private house, also typically Art Deco, at 37 Rue Jules Lejeune in Ixelles. Designed as a place for artists to experiment, the "Entre deux portes" showcase fits with JAP’s mission to raise awareness of contemporary art for everyone. The artist on show during the Heritage Days is Francisco Correia, with his exhibition Aguardente, on display from Tuesday to Saturday until 22 October. The exhibition is in French and Dutch.
