Although the centre of Brussels is often associated with historic buildings from an earlier era, the interwar period also left its mark. This is reflected in the remarkable buildings and urban planning interventions that are still visible. The walk begins at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, also known as BOZAR, designed by Victor Horta and completed in 1928. This building testifies to Horta’s expertise following his Art Nouveau period. Not far from BOZAR is the iconic Shell building on Rue Ravenstein, built between 1932 and 1934. With its clean lines and decor, this building exudes the international ambitions of the 1930s. The Central Station, originally designed by Horta in 1911 but only completed in 1952 as part of the North-South junction, has a more complex construction history. Throughout the walk, several emblematic buildings line the route, including the Art Deco restaurant Taverne du Passage and the modernist Vanderborght building. Here, Horta combined modernism with his own version of Art Deco, bringing Brussels’ rich cultural history to life. Further on is a mix of modernism and historic styles, including several Art Nouveau buildings that paved the way for later styles. Particular attention was paid to small details, such as the former CGER building with its metropolitan Art Deco look, now home to the "Wolf" food court, among others. The walk ends at the L’Espérance hotel-brasserie, whose Art Deco interior evokes a unique 1930s atmosphere. In collaboration with Korei Guided Tours.
