Aperçu

Designed by architect Louis-Herman De Koninck between 1931 and 1932, this modernist villa bears the name of its patron, Philippe Dotremont, who was a director of Raffineries et Sucreries du Grand Pont in Hoegaarden. This renowned contemporary art collector wanted a residence that reflected his image, and it is fair to say that the building was a success, since it was listed in 1977. With its discreet, smoothed concrete facade, it features metal-framed bays arranged asymmetrically, as well as a glazed half-cylinder marking the entrance and a glass-tile window, a process widely used in the interior to transmit light from one space to another. De Koninck designed the first two floors as a duplex, demonstrating his mastery of volumes, offering plenty of visibility in an eminently functional and original layout. The staircase, with its tubular handrail running to the top floor, seems to be one of the unifying elements of the space. The upper level opens onto a partially covered terrace.
