The Palm Beach — The Averbouch House
Joseph Diongre designed apartment buildings, housing estates, the Flagey building, the Hôtel Communal in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Molenbeek, as well as numerous villas and private homes, such as the Maison Averbouch on Rue Meyerbeer. Built in 1929, it features a broad, symmetrical Art Deco facade with simple contouring. It is three bays wide, and clad in white imitation stone on a bluestone base. The interior has retained its spacious rooms, including a vast, welcoming hall. Designer parquet floors, different types of marble, fluted mouldings, stained glass windows and a lantern with coloured glass create a coherent Art Deco ensemble. Today, Maison Averbouch combines two functions: a home and an art gallery (The Palm Beach).
