Aperçu

The Meir district in Anderlecht is the largest urban development project in Anderlecht since the creation of the Cureghem district at the end of the 19th century. Approved shortly before the First World War, the development of this new residential district took place mainly between the wars. Designed around a large roundabout and Astrid Park, for the middle class, it forms an extremely coherent, well-preserved architectural ensemble in the predominant Art Deco style. Single-family homes can be found in all shapes and sizes, while apartment buildings dot the streets of this spacious green district. The ornately decorated facades offer a wonderful panorama of the different trends in Art Deco architecture. This tour is an opportunity to discover the unsuspected treasures of a little-known district, which is nevertheless home to works by architects such as Antoine Courtens, Fernand Brunfaut and Léon Sneyers. In collaboration with ARAU, Atelier de Recherche et d'Action Urbaines.
