Aperçu

Because La Fonderie is not just a former foundry, but also a museum and documentation centre with a rich collection of artifacts and archives related to industry and industrial arts in Brussels during the 19th and 20th centuries, it has chosen to bring out of storage several official registers and collections of trademarks and designs filed in 1925 at the Conseil des Prud’homme. Everything is a graphic display: broken lines with sharp or rounded angles, and stylised, exotic or aerodynamic Art Deco shapes. Geometric fonts, Futura typography, sunny faces and regularly repeated motifs are also the graphic leitmotifs in professional and advertising presentations of industrial designers’ creations. Based on this collection of images and objects, La Fonderie offers a screen-printing workshop prepared with Christine Mawet and the students from the Applied Arts department at Sainte-Bernadette School in Auderghem. For enthusiasts of this traditional printing technique, widely explored at the beginning of the 20th century, the workshop allows participants to bring industrial trademarks, logos and signatures from 1925 to life in colour. Postcards and tote bags, ready to be personalised with a local brand from the interwar period, will be available at very affordable prices, but you are also welcome to bring your own textiles. The workshop will be given in French. Photographs are permitted, but without a flash.
