Leopold’s Sacred Heart
2025 is the Art Deco Year in Brussels! On this occasion, the Friends of the Basilica, the municipalities of Ganshoren and Koekelberg, the Museum of Modern Religious Art and the Belgian Chocolate Village have put together a rich and varied programme. As part of the Heritage Days, the public is invited to a screening of Philippe Van der Loo’s short film Leopold’s Sacred Heart (20 minutes). The film takes us into the very heart of the Basilica, introducing a number of inhabitants as unexpected as they are contradictory. Over the course of a day, we move through the church, from the deepest crypt to the neon-lit cross at the top. Along the way, we discover a chapel of perpetual adoration, a caretaker living beneath the church, a caving club, and more. The screening highlights the architectural heritage of the Basilica, offering an original and immersive perspective on this major Art Deco monument. The film is framed by guided tours in French and Dutch, open to all visitors. The screening is bilingual French/Dutch. Saturday 20 September: 2.00 pm > 3.45 pm – Guided tour of the Basilica (FR or NL) + Film screening and discussion with the director 3.00 pm > 4.45 pm – Film screening and discussion with the director + Guided tour of the Basilica (FR or NL) (duration 1h45, maximum 30 participants per timeslot) Reservation is mandatory : nederlandse.cultuur@ganshoren.brussels
