The Art Deco period of the Baucher-Féron couple with Ruth Hommelen
The Design Museum Brussels recently acquired the archives of the Baucher-Féron couple, an emblematic duo in Belgian interior design and architecture who were active between 1920 and 1980. The archives consist of drawings, decoration projects, photos, sculptures, textile samples, wallpaper, the Avenue Louise store archive and family papers. Based on the "Between Paris and Brussels. The Art Deco period of the Baucher-Feron couple" exhibition, presented to mark Art Deco Year 2025, this guided tour will highlight the work of a prolific couple who contributed to the spread of Art Deco and a modern vision of interior design. It is an opportunity to share with audiences a work that is yet to be discovered and explored. Ruth Hommelen holds a Master’s degree and a Master 2 in Art and Architecture History from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is a lecturer in Art and Architecture History at St Lucas Antwerp and the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels and Ghent. In 2026, she will defend a PhD thesis on the architecture of light, entitled "The Nightside of Modernity. Light Architecture and Metropolitan Culture during the Interwar Period" at KU Leuven.
