House Herrero
Although the house’s architect is not known, we do know that the client was of Spanish origin, which is not surprising when you see the interior decoration. Behind a sober facade dating from 1924, a vast patio unfolds, the focal point of the house. Topped by a glass dome of coloured glass, it was lined with ceramic tiles, while the walls were clad to half-height with another type of ceramic reminiscent of the Andalusian tradition. A small fountain takes centre stage, while a staircase rises to a landing that leads to all the rooms on the first floor. A wrought-iron handrail continues its course as a railing for this same landing. As at the Hotel Wielemans, numerous structural and decorative details blend Hispanic aesthetics with Art Deco. Photographs are not permitted. Guided tour in Belgian French sign language – at Saturday and Sunday at 14:00.
