Les Pavillons français
This major complex of Art Deco buildings was commissioned by developers Lucien and Gérard Kaisin. The first, founder of Crédit Général Hypothécaire, was behind the construction of the Résidence Palace. The project was entrusted to architect Marcel Peeters, and the building was erected between 1930 and 1934. The U-shaped complex features a ground floor and mezzanine in polished black granite. While the street- and garden-side facades have been given a Tyrolean rendering, the others feature cemented concrete, with Boom brick infills, all concealing a Hennebique-type reinforced concrete framework. Comprising fifteen floors at its highest point, the building offered the wealthy bourgeoisie apartments with every comfort, including communal services (restaurant, shop, solarium, reception room allowing residents to entertain without having to use their private space). The three entrance halls are clad in light oak mouldings and feature mosaic floors. Both the lift and the original wooden staircase have been preserved in the right-hand unit. The staircases in the other two units are made of granito. A garden completed the ensemble. (CL 19/04/2007) In collaboration with Bruxelles Bavard (FR) and Klare Lijn (NL/EN).
