Aperçu

A year before designing the Queen Elisabeth Medical Foundation in Jette, architect Henry Lacoste had this house built as his residence. The year was 1926, and he adopted a rather eclectic Art Deco style, fusing modernism and the Streamline Moderne style with Mediterranean elements stemming from his interest in ancient civilisations. The asymmetrical facade features a series of bays of varying shapes, including a five-sided oriel on the left corner. Lacoste did not hesitate to combine colours, choosing an electric blue for the metal frames, balcony railing, entrance door and garage door, yellow for the wall rendering, and an ochre brown for the cornice and base that matches the dark red of the bricks in the door frames and between the three ground-floor windows. (CL 22/11/2012) In collaboration with Bertrand Terlinden (FR/EN) and Bruxelles Bavard (FR/NL). Guided tour in Belgian French sign language - Saturday and Sunday at 16:00.
