In September, the National Bank will exceptionally open the doors of the Governor’s Hotel, a city palace that exudes the grandeur of the 19th century. Until 1957, the Governor’s Hotel served as the official residence. Today, it is still used as an official reception venue. The 175th anniversary of the National Bank presents the perfect opportunity to share the history and splendour of this architectural gem with architecture enthusiasts. This remarkable building is located in the heart of Brussels and is the only preserved part of the historical headquarters, designed by architects Henri Beyaert and Wynand Janssens between 1860 and 1878. The monumental façade is a masterpiece of eclectic architecture, blending influences from the Louis XVI style, the Second Empire, and the Italian and French Renaissance. Behind this impressive façade lies a richly decorated interior, where salons and workspaces feature gilded stucco, integrated tapestries, and mythological ceiling paintings by Joseph Stallaert, creating a unique atmosphere. A particular highlight is the grand staircase and the luminous banquet hall. The building will soon close for several years of renovation, so seize the opportunity to admire this exceptional heritage while you can. No flash photography allowed.
