Aperçu

The masterpiece of the Town Hall is the Town Hall itself. As a village within a town, Saint-Gilles has always been home to a large number of architects and artists. As its population grew, it needed to build a town hall that reflected the civilising virtues of art, science and morality. It bore witness to its faith in progress through the pencil and brush of the best artists of their time. Built in 1904, this imposing neo-Renaissance building is the apotheosis of artistic activity in Saint-Gillois. Over the 120 years of its existence, the deep ties forged with this Saint-Gilles’ artists contributed to enrich the Town Hall’s collection : a plaster by Rodin, a panel by Jordaens, a canvas by Paulus, contemporary works from the Parcours d’Artistes...During these Heritage Days 2025, the artistic activity of a woman artist will be brought to light and presented to the public in the Town Hall. No flash photography allowed.
