20 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00) Drop-in and explore Britain’s biggest socialist bookshop with a vast collection of new and second-hand books. There will be a special display of banners, newspapers and pamphlets on the day. We are volunteer run and guides will be available. For architecture enthusiasts, a chance to visit the B listed former New Bridgegate Church. Built in 1922-23 for the United Free Church. Designed (c.1915) by Thomson, Sandilands & Macleod in the Scots Gothic style with a massive traceried west window and a tower with a short spire. See the impressive external and internal Great War memorials. Converted to the Govanhill Workspace in 1994 by Govanhill Community Development Trust. Now occupied by a varied range of businesses and community organisations. There is wheelchair access to ground floor only to see war memorial. The bookshop though is accessed by a stair only.
