6 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00) 7 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00) Tundergarth Kirks offers a unique setting that powerfully reflects the 2025 theme. The site includes the 1771 church ruins and a Grade-B-listed 1900 church, showcasing centuries of rural Scottish ecclesiastical architecture—true "windows to the past." The church also houses a Remembrance Room for the victims of the 1988 Lockerbie disaster, demonstrating how heritage spaces can hold profound emotional and historical meaning. Looking to the future, the Tundergarth Kirks Trust is developing plans to create a museum and educational space within the 1771 ruins. This includes digital storytelling, community involvement, and accessible heritage learning—opening "doors to the future" for both locals and visitors. We believe Tundergarth Kirks is a fitting venue to host an open day that celebrates the evolution, memory, and future of architectural heritage. For Doors Open Days trustees will be welcoming visitors and sharing the extensive repair and renovation works that have been undertaken in the church, as well as development ideas for the educational museum. These will be given on an ad hoc basis depending on the number of visitors, but will be on offer all day. Additionally, the following activities will be taking place over the weekend: · Church service Sunday 7th September, 10am. All welcome to join. · Local artwork and sculptures on dislplay with local artists Fiona Riviere and Sean Watson. · A showcase of memorabilia kindly donated to the Trust by first responder organisations involved in the PanAm103 terrorist attack. · Friends of the Trust – local historian George Trudt and vexillologist Phil Tibbetts, will be popping by to speak to visitors about the history of the church, kirkyard and parish. · A family friendly scavenger hunt will be on offer all weekend for visitors young and old to enjoy. · Home baking will be available for visitors all weekend. Photographs by JessShoots Photography, K Boardman and I McLatchie. All of the paths on site are wheelchair accessible, as is the main 1900 church (via a ramp). The Remembrance Room has a small step up into it and the Kirk ruins (as can be seen in photo 2) are on rough grass.
