Paisley - Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697
7 September 2025 (11:30 - 16:00) The Renfrewshire Witch Hunt 1697 (RWH 1697) is the longest-established heritage charity dedicated to researching and sharing nearly 200 years of dark Scottish history surrounding the witch hunts, with a focus on the West of Scotland. We offer talks, walks, and outreach programs for the community, groups, and schools. Our site, Gallow Green, is the historic location of the witch trial executions. Our activities and talks will take place on the last untouched remains of Gallow Green, a communal piece of land once used for markets, cattle, and later, executions. The west end of Paisley developed around these remains and the 'Witches Tondo,' the supposed burial site of the executed. Superstition influenced road planning and building in this area. As part of Doors Open Days, we will host discussions on the three witch hunts of Paisley, provide opportunities to create seed bombs, assist in building a Forget-me-Not wreath for the 'Witches Well', and offer wax rubbings of the 'Witches Tondo'. Note : The venue is open air with no facilities.
