Exploring our Foundations - The Story is in the Stones! We want to share the story of our “stones”, from flint implements found in Upper Drumhallagh to the building of St. Mary’s Friary c1500. In our illustrated talk we take a look at some townlands in Killygarvan parish, observing the location and purpose of the “stones” or monuments in each area. We note also how many of our local placenames reveal or suggest the location of more “storied” stones, connecting us to the rich folklore associated with our built heritage. Then, taking one particular site, Ard a’ Chaisil in Rathmullan, we trace the ongoing habitation there over the past millennium.
