Aperçu

From Square Sainctelette, discover a vibrant district, characterised by its historic link to the port. Here, culture, commerce and housing have always been intertwined, shaping an ever-changing urban landscape. The Saillant de l’Yser, an imposing luxury building, dominates the square, facing the former Citroën garage and the Kaaitheater, symbols of the district’s transformation. A legacy of the colonial era, the boom in trade led to the import of exotic foodstuffs and the construction of warehouses, side-by-side with social housing and apartment blocks. Approaching the city centre, Rue Dansaert comes into view, lined with trendy boutiques and renovated buildings that bear witness to the district’s revival. The tour ends in front of the Palace cinema, an Art Deco jewel and a reminder that commerce and culture have always coexisted and reinvented themselves here. Saturday and Sunday at 9.30 am (NL), 10.00 am (FR), 1.30 pm (NL) and 2.00 pm (FR) (duration 2hrs, maximum 20 people per departure) In collaboration with E-GUIDES. Photographs are permitted, but only with smartphones.
