Go back to the time of the discovery of America Last witness of the residence of the family of Carondelet (1491-1621) who gave two presidents of the privy council in Flanders, hotel of the superintendents of the Mont de Piété of Valenciennes (1625-1794), housing of the director of the municipal credit of Valenciennes (1802-1843), last witness of the Maison Cellier (1912-1960), and of the Hôtel de Carondelet, its current volumetry dates back to 1455-1460. Many witnesses of this time persist on the floor and on the gable of the facade overlooking the Place Verte. This place has been visited by several sovereigns including Emperor Charles V, King Philip II of Spain, Archduke Albert of Habsburg and Infanta Isabella of Spain, and by many celebrities including the philosopher Erasmus. Architecture keeping the testimony of a flamboyant Gothic decoration cohabiting with the first characters of the Italian Renaissance it is also the oldest building of civil architecture of Valenciennes. Informations 40 people per visit, no free visit, site under construction.
