HERITAGE The Ste Marguerite church has six altarpieces from the 15th century out of the nine initial ones: the largest, that of St Marguerite and that of St Peter and St Paul are attributed to Louis Bréa; St Antoine de Padoue painted by Jean Canavesio; St Bernard de Menthon: La Piéta; The death of St Joseph. The treasure of religious silverware has more than forty classified pieces. Centerpiece of the treasure: 'Saint Marguerite with the dragon'. To remember also a very precious "Monstrance" in gilt silver from the 15th century. Moreover, the Pieta of the 16th century in plaster on fabric is one of the most moving statues of popular art. The tower, 15m high, said to be 'open at the throat' may seem partly demolished but it is not so. From the origin, it was built in the shape of a horseshoe, open to the village. If by misfortune the assailant made himself master of it, he could not use it against the square. The eastern part of the ramparts as well as some of the dwellings were destroyed during an avalanche (late 17th century). The crèche museum was created by the founding members of the Maison de Pays (all volunteers) at La Placette, in the old village. From the most humble to the most sophisticated, more than 170 works are exhibited there. You will discover, among others: the nurseries of the world, the superb Neapolitan crèche, the smaller ones presented in an authentic wardrobe, the 'cougourdons' wall, the crèche made with 33000 matches, the contemporary ones, santons of all sizes and different materials. The museum of old tools is the former chapel of Saint-Jean, located right next to the church, houses an exhibition of ancient tools used in the village for various agricultural and domestic activities. Several hundred instruments, tools, accessories are pleasantly presented and distributed according to their use.
