Visit to the Protestantism museum of Ferrières
Founded in 1968, Musée de France since 2003, the Ferrières museum is the first in France dedicated to religion and secularism from the history of French Protestantism. His message is addressed to all visitors, whatever their belief: how to understand the difficult progress of pluralism and tolerance? why so much violence, instability, reversals, passion in the religious policy of France from Saint Bartholomew’s Day to the 2004 law on the wearing of «ostentatious religious signs»? The journey of the Museum, from the Reformation to secularism, addresses questions such as: what is religion? what are the links between politics and religion? how to resolve them? the origins of power and legitimacy? what recourse to the religious yesterday and today? This journey through our history was designed with the certainty that knowing one’s past and that of the other is one of the best ways to learn to live together. Guided tours will be organized over the days. In 2024 the museum opened a new room dedicated to printing. It links the invention of the printing press to the dazzling success of the Reformation. Wondering what Luther would have been like if a Gutenberg had not preceded him? Visitors are invited to travel the entire museum around this fundamental "object", the Book (the Bible, of course) and the books, all the books, without which there would have been no, and still would be no, freedom of thought and belief. In this new room, the machines, the printing type and the books will not cease to dialogue. Temporary exhibition "Arborescences" by Pierre Luc Poujol to discover. Informations Free. Visits on demand.
