Aperçu

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, discover the Well of Moses, one of the most brilliant artistic projects of the late Middle Ages. The Well of Moses, sculpted by Claus Sluter from 1395 to 1406, is built in the center of what was once the former cloister of the Charterhouse of Champmol. Hexagonal pile about seven meters high, built above an underground source, it houses the statue of six prophets of the Old Testament: Isaiah, Daniel, Zechariah, Jeremiah, David and Moses. The sculptures are particularly expressive and meticulous down to the smallest detail: draperies, attitudes, expressions, etc. The Well of Moses remains one of the most beautiful heritages of the sculpture of the medieval Burgundian school. Professionals from Dijon Bourgogne Tourisme & Congrès will offer guided tours of the Well of Moses on site. Informations Free access
