Exhibition: 1% art, 100% heritage, the Lycée Alain
The municipal archives of Alençon proposes you for the European Heritage Days 2025 to discover the history of the Alain high school: from its past in the square court of lace, to its reconstruction after the war on the boulevard Mézeray. Come and discover this heritage of six centuries of history. First college of the Jesuits, it became central school, secondary school, communal college, royal college, high school, imperial high school, high school of Alençon and even military hospital. Now named Lycée Alain in memory of his former student and philosopher, Émile-Auguste Chartier, he still has many secrets for you. Its reconstruction in the 1960s was also an opportunity to exploit the artistic 1% cultural with the project of René Letourneur. His sculpture on the theme of «Youth» was selected in 1966 as a work of decoration under the title of artistic 1%. The municipal archives of Alençon is pleased to offer you for this exhibition the various projects of the cultural 1% of René Letourneur recently purchased, as well as that of the monument to the dead of the city of Alençon. The opportunity also to value the drawings and sketches offered by the artist’s son following the acquisition of his father’s works. We are waiting for you!
