An exciting launch of a collaboration project. “The Village Shops” programme focuses on the significance and extent of the small shops, artisan workshops, bartering trade and Meitheal practices in Irish rural communities c 1900-1980, with specific reference to Louisburgh & Killeen in the parish of Kilgeever. This will be a year long project investigating and mapping these shops, gathering oral history and artefacts with all of the information published on our website as a digital archive. A Heritage Trail and accompanying booklet will be produced for 2026. This is a collaborative project between Killeen Community Council, Louisburgh-Killeen Heritage, Louisburgh Community Futures, Louisburgh Tidy Towns and CALL-Climate Action Louisburgh Locality.
