6 September 2025 (11:00 - 15:00) 7 September 2025 (11:00 - 15:00) Cruck Cottage is the only remaining example of a basic dwelling that was very common in the 18th and 19th century. It has been carefully restored and maintained and suitably furnished, and provides an insight into the living conditions of a past age. Our knowledgeable guides will show you around this architectural gem of South West Scotland. Discover the history of the thatched cottage, the cruck construction, it's restoration, and it's unique hanging lum chimney. Families can come and make their own Tattie Bogle scarecrow to take away. The pathway is cobbled and there is an uneven earthen floor inside. There is ample seating in the cottage. For those with sensory issues, there is often a peat fire burning and the thatch does create dust. There are no audio-visual presentations. Interpretation is in the form of panels, but there is always a volunteer on hand to talk visitors through the history of the building.
