Aperçu

13 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00) We can provide a “Window into the past” by sharing information about the history of the allotments, the Craigie estate and how the plots were managed. We can also share information about the dig for victory campaign and produce. Looking to the future we can share information about how allotments today have changed. As well as providing fruit, veg and flowers there are untold benefits to our physical and mental health and wellbeing and can help address issues such as isolation. Allotments today also have a significant role to play in the protection and promotion of biodiversity. Many plants grown in allotments, depend on insects to pollinate them in order for there to be good crops. We have several areas on our allotments that have been specifically planted with this in mind, and we can share information about this with visitors. We will open the allotments to members of the public interested in looking around. They will be able to walk around using the main grass paths. They will not be able to walk in any of the individual allotments. Members of the Friends of Craigie Allotments will be present to provide information about the allotments and show visitors around. Visitors will be able to look around themselves if the prefer. We have a community garden within the plots and visitors will be able to sit in this area. The paths are rough grass but may be accessible to motorised wheelchairs and scooters with care.
