Visit of the permanent tour of the Gallo-Roman civil basilica
Visitors walk under the city centre, at the heart of the foundations of this imposing monument from the first centuries of our era, unearthed in 1978. It was an element of the forum, in which commercial, financial and judicial affairs took place. It is the history of the city of Aquae and its territory, from the Landes to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, that reveals itself. After the presentation of the excavations of the late 1970s, the antique collections of the museum are exposed over a rich thematic journey: people of Tarbelles, architecture and urbanism, religion, daily life, political organization, water management, law and justice, etc. ; all punctuated by handling time. A real journey through time, exotic and enriching! Possibility of discovering the site in the footsteps of Brigitte Watier, archaeologist who discovered the site in 1978 (audioguide).
