Aperçu

The Borda museum is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. A legacy of more than 200 years, which finds its origin in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries with the development of the natural history cabinet of Jacques-François Borda d'Oro (1718-1804), then its purchase by the City of Dax. This exhibition presents the history of the museum and its collections through a rich chronological and thematic journey. Sciences, ethnology, arts, archaeology... more than 400 objects are thus gathered in an exceptional way, as had not been the case for nearly twenty years. This is a small heterogeneous and cosmopolitan sample of the collections, rich in nearly 12,000 objects or lots of inventoried objects. The opportunity to highlight the process of constitution, conservation and transmission of a common heritage, witness to the evolution of human societies, cultural sensitivities, as well as the emergence of modern sciences.
