Push the doors of a place full of memory and charm: the Hotel Bernanos, architectural gem nestled in the heart of Clermont-de-l'Oise. Enjoy a 30-minute guided tour, organized every hour, to explore the multiple facets of this 16th century mansion, its French garden, and its adjoining park, a 2,800 m2 of classified wood, preserved as secret treasure in the heart of the city. A place inhabited by History Two large conductive wires punctuate the visit: The illustrious inhabitants of the mansion You will discover the prominent figures who have walked these places, starting with Georges Bernanos, committed writer, famous author of “Sous le soleil de Satan”. The Hotel also welcomed Frédéric Masson, eminent historian and perpetual secretary of the French Academy, or Doctor Bouchard, mayor and resistant, and also Doctor Chatellier , a talented amateur painter, whose work still adorns the monumental staircase. A recognized heritage wealth The Hotel Bernanos was the subject of an in-depth study conducted by the students of the École de Chaillot (promotion 2021-2022), who highlighted its architectural and historical value. Explanatory panels punctuate the visit, illustrating the evolution of the building over the centuries, and help you better understand the architectural details and transformations of the place. A place at the heart of living heritage As part of the European Heritage Days 2025, extend your immersion by discovering the exhibition 'Moving Heritage in Hauts-de-France', installed at the City Hall of Clermont, where will also be exhibited the works of the students from Chaillot.
