Visit of the Hotel de Bourvallais
Every year, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, a major cultural event in the new school year, the Hotel de Bourvallais, seat of the Ministry of Justice for over 300 years, opens its doors to the public. Classified as a historical monument, the building is rich in an important movable heritage. On the occasion of the 42nd edition, a tour route shows the ceremonial rooms and offices on the ground floor as well as the garden of the Hotel de Bourvallais. Throughout the weekend, visitors will be able to meet restorers of old works, present in the library on the ground floor, closer to the collection of old works. Upstairs, in the Peyronnet gallery: an exhibition entitled "Minister’s office, an exercise in style", designed by the Department of Archives, Documentation and Heritage of the Ministry of Justice. Central element of the ministerial hotel, the office of the Minister of Justice is the most prestigious place. The exhibition questions the way in which he participates in the function and its representation; it returns to the roaming of the office within the Hotel and to the history of its furnishing as a witness to the evolution of the taste of successive ministers. A selection made among the many photographs of press agencies places the visitor in the different decades from the early 20th century to the present day. The proposed itinerary includes a reconstruction of the office of Robert Badinter, Minister between June 1981 and February 1986, who will enter the Pantheon on October 9, 2025. It closes with the former cabinet of the minister under the Second Empire and the Third Republic restored in 2024. In order to better promote the variety of professions and the different facets of the practice of law and justice, professionals will also be present in the courtyard of honor, over the two days, to discuss around their profession and background and training to access it. The visits are carried out freely, embellished with materials and in the presence of agents and staff from the Ministry of Justice who will be able to inform visitors on each floor.
