The priory of Val Saint-Benoît is the last priory of the order of Val des Choux where monastic life continues since the thirteenth century. The monastic order of Val des Choux, born in a forest of Burgundy at the end of the XIIth century has today disappeared. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the priory of Val Saint-Benoît brings it to life and tells the splendors and miseries of these valiant monks, their customs, their quest for the absolute, their architecture. In the church of the thirteenth century continues to the twenty-first century a living monastic liturgical tradition that permeates the walls with its remarkable acoustics. The priory of Val Saint-Benoît surprises the visitor in this exceptional environment, very silent, in the middle of the forest. After the guided tour of the listed church and chapel, you will be able to see the faience craft workshops and the moniales' molding, exceptionally open to visit for the European Heritage Days. You will discover the workplaces of the nuns and their manufacturing techniques. You will see on this occasion an exhibition of monastic crafts with earthenware, bas-reliefs, statues, stoneware, leather work, etc. An audio-visual montage of the history of the first monks of the Val Saint-Benoît will present the epic of the monks of the priory, the disappearance of the monastery and then its resurrection and the adventure of its improbable and unexpected restoration with the arrival of the nuns of Bethlehem, of the Assumption of the Virgin and Saint Bruno and the resumption of monastic life in this place since the spring of 1982.
