Burdigala: an ancient city between shadows and light

In ancient times, the original city of Bordeaux, Burdigala, developed around two main axes: the Cardo (now Rue Sainte-Catherine) and the Decumanus (corresponding to Porte Dijeaux and Saint-Rémi streets). These lively commercial arteries welcomed workers, scholars and rhetoricians from all over Europe. The scenography of the four windows of the Vitrine des Essais evokes a shadow theatre: like ghostly apparitions returned from the past, these black figures symbolically reactivate our ancient origins. Yet, if women were then confined to the domestic space, they now occupy a central place in the active life of the city. 👉 In partnership with the Museum of Aquitaine and the City of Bordeaux, this project was carried out by the students in art history from the Montaigne high school: Nine Avenard, Maya Gayet, Maëlle Mansuy, Lisa Mendy, Laure Titon-Laneuville Brialix, under the direction of their professor Corinne Szabo. Informations Free. Mediation by the students of the project during the Heritage Days from 6pm to 8pm. Exhibition visible day and night.
