Discovery of the history of the shellfish from Brest harbour, the St Guénolé
On Sunday, September 21, you will board the Saint Guénolé shellfish boat for 20-minute free rides (children over 10 years accompanied). You will discover the history of the boat and its scallop shell fishing activity. The boat will only sail as during its fishing years. On land, you can visit an exhibition on the history of the boat. Saint Guénolé has been classified as a historical monument since 1993. This boat was built in 1948 at the shipyard of Victor Belbeoc'h at Fret, for peasant sailors from Plougastel Daoulas. He practiced fishing only by sail from 1948 to 1954, and then by motor until 1963. Currently it is owned by the city of Plougastel and managed by the Centre Nautique Armorique (lime kiln, Plougastel-Daoulas). It was completely restored in 2011-2012 by the Guip shipyard in Brest and launched during the maritime festivals of Brest 2012. Informations to be noted for the walks, children’s access: over 10 years old and accompanied.
