Maison Saint-Charles – A living heritage between history, architecture and solidarity Hidden from view, the Maison Saint-Charles is a place where religious past and social commitment meet in a preserved architectural setting. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, it opens its doors to you exceptionally. The Maison was founded in 1862, when Abbé Bayle established an orphanage. Later, the Dominican Sisters of Charity carry out hospital, educational and social activities in support of the most deprived. Carefully restored, the site preserves a remarkable architectural heritage from this period, including a neo-Gothic chapel and an interior garden with centuries-old trees. Several renowned artists (mosaics, glassmakers, etc.) give the ensemble a unique and singular atmosphere. Today, the Maison Saint-Charles houses a hotel, work spaces and an intergenerational residence, managed by the association Habitat et Humanisme Île-de-France, where elderly people, young people and families in integration live, in a spirit of social diversity and solidarity. This new chapter perpetuates the humanistic vocation of the place. During a guided tour, you can discover the emblematic heritage spaces - chapel, gardens, stained glass windows, fresco - and immerse yourself in the history of the Maison Saint-Charles.
