ENG: I chose the fairy tale because it is both funny and instructive – the cunning fox tricks the fisherman, reminding me to be careful of tricks. During my work, I also learned about ancient fishing and realized that this fairy tale is part of the history and cultural heritage of Latvia. Thinking about the competition question, I came to the conclusion that cultural heritage is the memory of our people – stories, songs and traditions from which we can learn. I found it particularly exciting to depict an ancient fairy tale in modern illustrations and continue the story in a new way. While working on the drawings, I tried to highlight the cunning and amusingness of the fox, as well as the kindness and confusion of the fisherman when he falls into the fox’s trap.

I hope that my illustrations will show Europe the richness and universal humor of Latvian fairy tales. This work was an exciting adventure for me, and I am proud of what I have accomplished, hoping that this fox and the fisherman will become little ambassadors of Latvian culture in Europe.

LV: Pasaku izvēlējos, jo tā ir gan smieklīga, gan pamācoša – viltīgā lapsa apmāna zvejnieku, atgādinot, ka jābūt uzmanīgiem pret viltībām. Darba gaitā uzzinu arī par seno zvejniecību un sapratu, ka šī pasaka ir daļa no Latvijas vēstures un kultūras mantojuma. Domājot par konkursa jautājumu, nonācu pie atziņas, ka kultūras mantojums ir mūsu tautas atmiņa – stāsti, dziesmas un tradīcijas, no kurām varam mācīties. Man šķita īpaši aizraujoši seno pasaku attēlot mūsdienīgās ilustrācijās un turpināt stāstu jaunā veidā. Strādājot pie zīmējumiem, centos izcelt lapsas viltību un amizantumu, kā arī zvejnieka laipnību un apjukumu, kad viņš nonāk lapsas lamatās. 

Ceru, ka manas ilustrācijas parādīs Eiropai latviešu pasaku bagātību un universālo humoru. Šis darbs man bija aizraujošs piedzīvojums, un es lepojos ar paveikto, cerot, ka ana lapsa un zvejnieks kļūs par maziem Latvijas kultūras vēstniekiem Eiropā.
