Dates: 23 - 25 September 2022

Greece poster

Greece is celebrating the European Heritage Days with the shared European theme for this year “Sustainable Heritage - Preserving the past for future generations”, on 23-25 September.

The theme attempts to tackle the impact of climate change and its environmental implications regarding the protection of heritage (tangible and intangible). More specifically it aims at raising awareness on restoration techniques and  materials of older times, the significance of continuity as well as the promotion of traditions and skills at local/national level but also  beyond European  borders. The celebration involves demonstration of good practices from the past that have allowed us to enjoy historical sites today, as well as the use of new technologies and digital tools for preservation of the above meters on cultural heritage.

Moreover, this year’s theme encourages adoption of practices and use of sustainable resources and materials that eliminate the environmental footprint, rendering thus the historical sites and monuments accessible to present and future generations. This can be achieved with interconnection of cultural heritage with environmental preservation and biodiversity through a critical view of current practices.

European Heritage Days 2022 will be celebrated in Greece from 23 until 25 September with the majority of events being with physical presence of visitors while there will also be some digital ones that will broadcast in real time or not through the electronic media of the organizing institutions and will also be hosted at the country’s social media pages (https://www.facebook.com/EHDaysGR/, https://www.instagram.com/ehpk_greece/).

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September, entry will be free of charge to all state archaeological sites, museums and monuments for all visitors.
